Town of Ovesta

The Town of Ovesta is a small town on the Big Western River. As the crow flies, it is about 20 miles from the source of the Big Western River. It caters to the needs of the surounding farming communities and is the largest trading town servicing the farms orchards and ranch areas on both sides of that river.

  • The Town of Ovesta has around 1,500 people
  • Population breakdown - human 80%, halfling 8%, half-elf 5%, gnome 4%, dwarf, elf, half-orc, each 1% (no goblins or kobolds)
  • The maximum price of an item that can be purchased in Ovesta is 4,000 gp.

    The most influential noble is Baron Alfred Appleson whose company owns horse breeding ranches for all manner of horses. But they specialize in the breeding, raising and training of war horses for the kingdom and for export.

    1. Old Tower of the Kingsman (Office/Jail)

  • Wren Lunerise, a female half-elf, is the Kingsmen. Tall for a half-elf, she always carries an easy smile. Long brown hair matches her sparkling eye color. Attractive, confident and skilled, she is well-liked. Her serious nature only shows itself if she suspects something awry happening in the community. She had the old watchtower converted into a jail and an office for herself and her deputies. There is a rumor that she and the elder Lord Applesum are lovers, but if true, any such connection is kept out of the public eye.

    2. Oak and Hammer (Carpenter/Blacksmith Shop)

  • David Sheen, a male half-elf and town deputy, owns and runs the Oak and Hammer which is a combination carpenter shop and blacksmith shop. It is said that no one is better with a bow than David Sheen.

    3. Corrals and Stables

  • Owned by Lord Appeleson and where he brings horses to be sold.

    4. Sugar Apple Inn and Tavern

  • This is a large two-story establishment refined enough for nobility. There is nightly entertainment here on its main stage in its large dining area. It can sit a hundred people. The upper story has rooms for fifty guests.
  • Otto Preston, an elder male human, owns the Sugar Apple inn and Tavern.
  • The bard, Michael the Silver, is a handsome male human who dresses foppishly. He is entertaining, charming, witty, well-manicured, and considers himself a ladies man. He has recently composed a song of the heroic deeds of the Wanderers of the Wyld.
  • Goodwife Rebecca, an aged human female, cooks at the Sugar Apple and does midwife duties in the town. She was the last person to see deputy Renfield alive.

    5. General Store

  • tools and equipment available for sale
  • Owned by Morie Hambone, a male Kern halfling, and his family.
  • He has 4 sons who are militia members, some may be convinced to move to Roccatorre.

    6. Bakery/Butcher Shop

  • Marco and Maria Cellini, a human couple run this shop. Marco is the baker; Maria is the butcher.
  • The baking odors are enticing, while the butcher section contains the finest meat cuts and sausages.

    7. On Tap Brewery and Tavern

  • Axel Storm, a male mountain dwarf, is a top brewmaster.
  • He and his family (wife Inga, 2 sons, Rory and Risca, 1 daughter, Lola) operate the On Tap Brewery and Tavern.
  • They produce strong ales, beers and meads along with potent dwarven spirits.
  • Do not dare to order ‘pussy’ drinks here.
  • The whole family is in the militia. All are tough but Lola is the toughest. Even the rough and rowdy bunch at the Bull Horn Tavern make way for Lola.

    8. Shearing/Skinning Seervices

  • Blarney Allen and 2 brothers, Peter and Fred, sell wool, lamb and mutton.
  • The brothers also raise bloodhounds.
  • All three are constant clients at the Bull Horn tavern as well as militia members.

    9. Warehouses

  • Owned by the Royal Family and rented out.
  • The Kingsman Wren is the manager but often delegates the work.

    10. Shipping and Waggoneers

  • Owned by the Royal Family and managed by the Kingsman.
  • Wagons can be rented or purchased, while waggoneers can be hired.

    11. Cheese Store

  • Francois and Helene Dupuis, a human couple, make all sorts of homemade cheeses.
  • One can buy by the wedge or by the wheel.

    12. Bull Horn Tavern

  • Mardok the Ironfist, a male half-orc militia member, owns and tends bar at the Bull Horn Tavern.
  • The Bull Horn Tavern is considered a ‘low dive drinking hole, full of piss and farts’.
  • One can order a ‘whiskey with a fight on the side’ but Mardock, an experienced brawler himself, usually ends such occurances quickly with one punch to each involved.

    13. Noble House of Ovesta: Appleson

  • The most influential noble is Baron Alfred Appleson, male human aristrocat, whose company owns horse breeding ranches for all manner of horses.
  • His wife, a female elf, has passed away. He has a daughter Kara and son Neil.
  • Kara Appleson is a female half-elf 1st level aristrocat/ 4th level wizard. She has a raven familiar named Alice. She keeps her spellbook safe. She worships Mystra.
  • Neil Appleson is a male half-elf 1st level aristrocat/ 2nd level fighter/ 2nd level ranger. He has magic studded leather armor and uses a composite longbow.

    14. Noble House of Ovesta: Henset

  • Keleman Henset is a male human 1st level aristrocat/ 4th level wizard. He has a quarterstaff and spellbook. He worships Mystra.

    15. The Leather Shop

  • The Leather Shop is run by Bayard Roundhead and his wife wife Topsy. They are a gnomish couple.
  • all sorts of leather hides, pre-made leather goods. Made to measure available- repairs and tanning doable.

    16. Noble House of Ovesta: Brada

  • The widower Lord Jason Brada leads the militia.
  • His son, Argo Brada, is a male human 1st level aristrocat/ 4th level Paladin of Tyr. He wears half-plate and uses a longsword.

    17. Town Square and Open Market Place

  • Lord Tylor Maris and his wife Amanada are human nobles in Ovesta.
  • Lord Tylor Maris is a militia captain.
  • Their son Alan prefers to live in the rectory with the other clerics.
  • Alan Maris is a male human 1st level aristrocat/ 4th level Cleric of Oghma.

    19. Tailor/Drapery Store

  • Enid Swiftfingers is a female halfling and militia member. So deft are her fingers, word is she could pickpocket a flea.

    20. Post Office

  • Also sells various paper types, parchments and inks.
  • Has three employees who are all militia members as well.
  • They include Jack Spry, a human male with acrobatic talents, Woody Heartglen, a male halfling and a fine tracker, and Janet Hardtack, a human female who teaches sword work.

    21. Hostel

  • Owned and operated by Mima Norway, a female human.
  • Usually fully occupied by seasonal workers
  • Board is included

  • This building is the residence for the town clerics.

    24. Library House of Dawn and Grain

  • The Library House of Dawn and Grain is the church and town library run by clerics of Oghma, Lathander and Chauntea.
  • All ten clerics have various duties as militia members.
  • Father Turghim, a male human, is the head priest and worships Chauntea.
  • Alan Maris is a male human 1st level aristrocat/ 4th level cleric of Oghma.

    25. Apple Orchard

  • Jake Cullin, a male human, and his family operate the Orchard House. They sell apples apple pies and tarts and make and sell apple cider.
  • Harold Blanchard, a young male human druid, helps out in the orchard, as well as the surrounding countryside. Lately, he is concerned about the strange behaviour of the wild animals but is despondent about something else that is bothering him. He and deputy Jaqueline Bondett have been romantically involved since her arrival in Ovesta.

    26. Grain Storage Barns

  • Owned by the Crown and space is rented out to farmers.

    27. Burt and Ernie's Maison Magique

  • Burt and Ernie are a pair of male humans and a gay couple who run this magic shop.
  • Bert and Ernie are also militia members.

    28. Wicked Wanda's Wondrous Magical Delights

  • Wanda Hillstone is a female gnome who runs this magic shop. She is also a member of the militia.
  • The magic shop specializes in weird and unusual items. She currently has the following items for sale:
  • Weird Air Flask = 2,000 gp - can move fast when breathed - swift action, hasted for 1 round, 3x day
  • Jar of Pickled Mephit = 1,400 gp
  • Tricky Coin = 360 gp
  • Blind Eyeball = 350 gp
  • Spell Worms = prices vary

    29. Ollanda's Simple Stuff

  • Ollanda Harr, an older human female, lives by herself on the outskirts of town. She comes into town to sell herbal concoctions in the market. She is always followed by her pet cat.
